Unique Selling Proposition - The Beverages

Unique Selling Proposition makes you stand out
I found it quite hilarious when I realized that beverage is actually a classification of liquids other than water. This is because back in secondary school if we say “beve,” it means either Lipton or Milo. Well, today, you have been educated; milk, beer, carbonated drinks or soft drinks if you prefer, wine, etc. can all be categorized as beverages.

Beverages are part of our social lives. In fact, social functions are never complete without beverages; a gathering can come to an end when the patrons run out of beverages. The constant demand of beverages, have given rise to the constant supply, thereby causing the beverage industry to be one of the most successful businesses in the world.

This and other factors have caused stiff competition among the many beverage companies. One thing I love about competition is the fact that it affords the consumer the opportunity to wallow in assortment while the producers get themselves busy with innovation. So how do these companies still stay in business? Let’s make these comparisons between some very popular beverages and examine what makes them similar yet so unique in their own way.

Coca Cola vs. Pepsi Cola
When it comes to brand seniority, Coca Cola can boast of its existence nearly a decade before Pepsi Cola showed up. However, when it comes to colourisation, both products are almost identical except for their taste. When their contents are poured out, it is hard to tell the difference. It may interest you to know that whereas Coke is characterized by a raisiny-vanilla taste, Pepsi has a citrusy flavor burst. If you want to consider their nutritional contents, Coke has slightly more sodium whereas Pepsi contains slightly more sugar, calories and caffeine.

Club Beer vs. Star Beer
For beer ratings in Ghana, Accra Brewery’s Club Premium Lager is on top, according to ratebeer.com. This position is keenly contested by Guinness Ghana’s Star Beer. Despite both products having the same pale look, there are several differences that make each of these beers stand out. Star is brewed from barley, malt, and hops with a specific blend of yeast whereas Club is brewed from malt and hops. Club has a malty aroma and a grainy flavour whereas Star has a grainy, strawy taste with hints of corn, and flat bitterness.

Castle Milk Stout vs. Guinness stout
Most people would readily crown Guinness as the king when it comes to stouts. You cannot fault them, considering how long Guinness has ruled the market. There comes Castle Milk stout. Will you know the difference if these two products are placed side by side in a glass? Otherwise known as a "meal in a glass," Guinness stout is made from water, barley, roast malt extract, hops, and brewer's yeast. A portion of the barley is roasted to give Guinness its dark colour and characteristic taste. Castle Milk Stout on the other hand, uses a dark roasted malt to extract a rich brew. Looks may be deceptive but the taste of a product never lies. So yes, they look similar but they are indeed very different, at least their logo, adverts reveal that.
